Spring Fever
Spring is in the air and, amidst all of the pre-St. Patrick’s Day debauchery, there was a beautiful day to be found. It was a picture taking, park sitting, and bike-riding Sunday. Liz and I decided to take full advantage of the fantastic weather by riding all over the city for the better part of the day. Having to dodge and fend off the many people drunk before lunch was an adventure in itself. It should be this way all year round. Not too hot, not too cold, and not working. Having never really lived in a city I realized that I had been missing out on the charm of neighborhood parks. I realize that you don’t have to be in a city to find a park, but where I grew up there weren’t parks so much as there were cornfields. I don’t know that I could ever get tired of sitting in the park and letting my mind wander. Watching the people. Petting the dogs. Thinking about new things to do or socks I might like to purchase. All the while basking in not having to trudge through two feet of snow just to get there. This time of year always reminds me of when I was a kid when my brother and our friends would sneak into the cow fields next to our house and play. Rolling down the hills until we were too dizzy to stand, searching under branch and rock for crayfish, having cow-pie fights…you get the idea, when showers were weekly events. Anyway, the nostalgia this weekend’s weather brought took hold and reminded me how much fun getting out of my winter hibernation can be.
